Solar Coffee Sadness

Our Solar Coffee Trailer project started five years ago when we were lucky enough to have someone drop-off an old coffee machine as e-waste. It was not working but was repairable and we started brewing an idea about what to do with it … create a coffee machine powered by solar and old laptop batteries, make it mobile and be able to provide barista coffee off-grid! With this dream and some ingenuity the Solar Coffee Trailer was born! Coffee powered by the sun and old e-waste - what better way to demonstrate the kind of vibe we have at Substation33!

Since its creation the Solar Coffee Trailer has had various upgrades and gone to many events to provide caffeinated joy to countless people. More importantly, it has provided valuable training opportunities and experience for our participants as we help skill them for employment. So, it is with a heavy heart we report that our beloved bestower of caffeine has finally brewed its last drop of gold and is now beyond repair.This means we are in a bit of a pickle. We need to get ourselves another salvageable coffee machine so we can get the solar coffee trailer back to what it does best. It has bookings to honour! 

The big question we have then is: Does anyone (business or individual) have a small/medium commercial coffee machine that they are willing to donate? If it needs some TLC that’s ok. We would love to get our Solar Powered Coffee Trailer back on the road.
