This is how Subbie will be spending Christmas. To be fair, sleeping in a box is how she spends most of the year. Here at Substation33 our mantra is “Eat, Sleep, Recycle, Repeat.” Subbie’s version is more “Eat, Sleep, Repeat.” No one’s brave enough to tell her she’s got it wrong though… she is the CEO after all. We just discovered that Christmas e-waste actually has a term! It’s called “Santa E-waste”. Many homes are now lit up with festive lights and increasingly complicated electronic decorations. If you are updating your decorations, or need to get rid of some old ones taking up space in the garage, consider making a drop-off to us rather than throwing that Santa E-waste in the bin! *Please remove any batteries before dropping your items off. Wow what a year it has been! We had a big move this year, and after 6 months in our new location, it’s feeling like home. Somehow it is Christmas again already and thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, partners, staff and donors, we have had another great year. We will be closing up over Christmas for a well-earned rest from midday,Wednesday 24 th  December and will reopen Monday 5 th  January to welcome in 2026! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas

Substation33 recently hosted a group from Technology1 https://www.technology1.com/ The group were given a guided tour of Substation33, and then constructed PowerWells units from the base components in a step by step process. When constructed, these units are donated with branding that identifies which organisation contributed to the construction of the device. We get a lot of comments from participants about how rewarding it is to play a part in helping someone somewhere gain

At Substation33 on Friday’s we have a BBQ lunch. This is our way of thanking our volunteers who spend countless hours at our tables deconstructing e-waste. Over the last two days we have been hit by some phenomenal super cell storms, made more remarkable that we are not in the true storm season of Summer yet. These storms have done a lot of damage with high wind, hail and power outages across the south east quarter of Queensland. A significant amount of water is banking up in catchment areas and it needs time to flow out, but more powerful storms are on the way.
